During my clinical experience of the LPN program, I had to 'shadow' for 25 hours at 4 different facilities of my choice. I heard about a place through a friend called The Smith House. They are a primary practice that purchased the local allergists practice when he moved. So they do regular doctor stuff, as well as allergy testing and allergy injections on a daily basis. It was very interesting and I enjoyed my time there.
We were about to graduate, and I get a 'love note' in my mail box from my coordinator of the program, telling me that the Smith House has contacted her and asked to ask me to apply for a position there. So I take my resume down. I get called for an interview and it's a weird one. I didn't feel confident about it. Beside the fact that the facility (which btw was 40 minutes away from my house) that they wanted me to work in (that I applied for) didn't have a f/t RN in the facility and until I'm licensed, I need to work directly under an RN. I didn't feel that I was able to work for this company because of this. Also the more I think about it, I'm very nervous about the drive as I don't have 4WD and was in an accident a few years ago that still leaves me VERY nervous to drive in the snow/ice, let alone that far and over a mountain.
They called me back a week later and let me know that they wanted to talk about a job offer. I'm surprised because of the RN issue. They let me know that they filled the position that I interviewed for, with someone who was licensed. They needed a per diem person in their office in my town (YAY), which would be about 40 hrs a week until the end of August. At that time, they would like to re evaluate the situation and because of some changes at the facility, she couldn't see how there wouldn't be a f/t position available if everything worked out.
Today I go in to have my working permit filled out by my potential employer, and one of the nurses there was SO excited to see me. Said that she was so glad that I came, and she couldn't wait to work with me. Talk about a welcome. I'm very excited about this new opportunity and am thankful for it as well.
