celebrity'ism

I went to an Amateur Tournament at Bethpage State Park in NY.
The BF volunteers at the US Open every year and likes to go early and check stuff out. He asked me to go and since I love an adventure, I went.

I could run in so many directions with this posting, but I'll stick to the topic.

There were celebrities there. My feelings on this are as such:

You are a celebrity. Do something good with it. Don't be a dick. No one likes a dick.

After the golf tourney, there is a fenced off area, that the celebrities have to walk through to get off the course. Of course, the fans are all around this fenced in area waiting for them.

Anthony Kim who apparently is an up and coming golfer. He was a caddy for this event, and maybe that's why he was such an ass. He is the first one off the course, and is walking with his girlfriend. Someone says "Anthony, can I please have a picture?" (mind you - there is NO ONE around. He's the only person in the fenced in area) and he simply ignores her. Everyone is watching him walk by and he's muttering under his breath 'I'm out of here! I'm going home!' about 4 minutes later, he walks back through to go back to the course, with a towel over his head (so no one sees him?). Someone is laughing and asking him why he's back and he said 'forgot the car keys' and kept walking. He's on his 2nd trek through, and says 'found em. I'm going home!' and that was it. And we all looked at each other.

I looked at Mark and I commented - he's young and is a dick. He is going to get famous and I hope that people remember and say 'I remember when that Anthony Kim was a no one and he was a jackass to his would be fans ...'

I just think its a priveledge to be a celebrity - do something good with it.
Smile and take a picture. I understand that everywhere these people go - they are asked for autographs and pictures - but at an event when people come specifically to see you - and you are 1 of 6 celebrities at an event - its kinda the thing to do.

I was standing next to this mentally/physically disabled guy - who was about 20. He was with his dad and he was excited, waiting to possibly get an autograph. The dad was trying to be realistic and staying 'if it doesn't happens, it doesn't happen' but the kid was very enthusiastic.

Now if you hear your name being called by a kid, you know its a kid. If you hear your name being called by someone who is mentally/physically challenged, you know it from the voice. Stop and sign. He was the only guy there like him, he should have gotten an autograph. Maybe I'm just a bitch - but do the right thing. Take 2 minutes and make the kids week, or life. You know? I didn't care if I got one, but I would have been thrilled if Ben would have stopped and signed for him.

Justin did see a little girl calling his name and told her to meet him over on the tee box for an autograph - and she was screaming and saying 'oh my god daddy! justin just talked to me!' and the dad is like 'calm down, wait a minute' and she was going a mile a minute, it was awesome to see her excitement over JT talking to her.

Mark got Ben to sign a football for him, and was very pleased. Apparently he's a sports geek and I was unaware. Good thing I fell in love with him before I knew. ;)
