NYC

Mark wanted to go away for a weekend when we could.
We couldn't decide where to go. Montreal? NYC? NH?
It was supposed to rain in NYC so we were going back and forth ...

I wake up to an email telling me that we are leaving after I get off of work on Friday - and to pack my bags as we were going to the Big Apple.

I've never been to NYC and I know he wants to take me there. So I'm excited and I have no idea what to expect.

Friday I get home from work and I'm all packed. We hit the road after hitting Dunkin Donuts and finding out they have no iced tea, we go to McDonalds for some. On the road again!

We got to NYC about 11 pm and its AMAZING. People drive like crazy people in the city and he warned me prior to getting into the city. And he wasn't kidding.

We were in the Sheraton on Broadway so right in the city. We put our stuff in the room and immediately walked down to Times Square. Sensory overload! We walked all over and ended up going to 3 Irish pubs that Mark visits when he is in town. One beer at the first two places, and then a bunch and some Jager bombs at the "Pig 'n' Whistle' - which the next day I was calling the 'wrinkled pig'. LMAO We got pizza at 4 am and didn't eat it - we were tired! (and had consumed quite a bit!) Oh and a draft beer in NYC is $8. Just sayin'!

Saturday morning we wake up around 10 and decide to get motivated to see the "Body Exhibition" that I found on the internet. We looked out the window and saw lots of umbrellas and we grumbled. We had lunch at a deli - we ordered sandwiches that were HUGE. I swear there was a lb of turkey on mine. So big you can't even get your mouth wrapped around it. We got a fruit tart and some cheese cake - and weren't able to eat about a half of all of it. So much food. It stopped raining and was quite mild out, so we took the umbrella back to the room and ditched our jackets.

The trip to the exhibit required my very first cab ride, let alone a NYC cab ride. HOLY CRAP. I held Marks hand tighter than I ever have ... and was seriously afraid a couple times. LOL The Bodies Exhibition has cadavers to show you - different body parts - nervous system - circulatory system - reproductive system - muscular system and alot more - was very interesting. But very hard when walking around this place to not think that it is a human body you are looking at - someone's head cut in half to show you what the side view looks like. At the end there were babies - in different stages in life - that had died in utero. I was good up til the last weeks and I simply turned around and did not look. It was interesting but very deep. I was quiet (for once) as was Mark. We kinda just looked around and tried to take it in - almost as if we told ourselves it wasn't real. (And I did hear a few others saying that to someone they were with. It was different than expected, not only by me apparently.)

After that experience, we walked to the Godiva store and got some different truffles to try. We ate those while we walked in the incredibly windy streets towards Battery Park. We walked to Wall Street and the Stock Market Exchange. We walked to Battery Park and saw the Statue of Liberty which was smaller than I had imagined it was. Took pictures. There was rain coming in and the river was choppy and we decided not to take the ferry over. We walked to Ground Zero which is also a humbling place. We walked to a little deli and had a coffee and some cheesecake before catching another cab back to our hotel room. Being that my back had been tricky for awhile now and walking really aggravates it - I'm surprised at the amount of walking I did and how little pain I was in. I took some alleve when we got back to the room and we took a nap. No, we really did take a nap. ;)

We got back up and out we went. We went to Rockefeller Center and walked around, saw the skating rink and the huge Christmas tree that was in scaffolding still and not decorated. We went to this diner a block from our hotel, that the waitresses and waiters are all aspiring actresses/actors...and they sing to you while you eat. they perform - walking all over the booths behind you and interacting with the customers -was a blast! We left there and walked some more before retiring to our room one again.

Sunday am we get up and walk up 5th Avenue. Beautiful stores! We walked to Central park and into it a bit before turning around and coming back. There are horse & carriage rides everywhere and artwork and all kinds of street vendors...was amazing. This is where I look up and say to mark "oh my god its the pregnant man!" and he's like 'what??' and I'm grabbing my camera....and I got a pic but right before I got it, he (she) turned her head and her 'wife' is glaring at me in the picture. LMAO (they were in a carriage with their little girl and some camera men, obviously doing a photo shoot.) Mark is laughing at me calling me the paparazzi and telling me that he's got no idea what a pregnant man is and how he was looking a very pregnant man walking around. LOL what a riot.

(My only celebrity siting in NYC and its a woman who claims to be a man because she has no breasts, but has a uterus. I'm sorry. You kept the main WOMAN organ - you are a woman with a beard. But thats besides the point.)

We got our shopping done ... got the car and after waiting 45 minutes for it to be brought down ... we were on the road to upstate NY again. I took a nap while Mark listened to football on his satellite radio and we were back at my house at 6:30 pm.

an amazing weekend spent with an amazing person ...
